WiWiC is Talking about Well Water in October!

There are so many reasons to take good care of soil - but one we probably don't immediately think about is WATER QUALITY. What happens on the soil surface doesn't stay on the soil surface. It impacts our shared groundwater resources, and that directly affects our private wells, as well as our public municipal water supply. For our Fall Learning Circles through October, we're focusing our discussion on this aspect of conservation - and we're really looking forward to having some lively conversation with all of you. The next learning circle is TODAY in Fall Creek at Beaver Creek Reserve. RSVP here!

At our first Fall Learning Circle of the year in Galesville on September 24, we debuted a groundwater flow model we received from the UW Stevens Point Center for Watershed Science and Education. Director Kevin Masarik trained WiWiC Program Director Esther Durairaj and Outreach Coordinator Sara George in how to run and describe the model. Here in the Weltzien Family Round Barn, Sara did the first demo, with help and input from a big group of local conservation professionals. The conversation was tough to wrap up in time for the wonderful lunch prepared by Tansy's Traveling Kitchen! We really appreciated the delicious smash burgers and reubens and the opportunity to tackle a tough subject in a beautiful setting.

Here are a list of the conservation professionals who attended, if you'd like to connect with them to discuss options for designing and funding conservation practices:

Christine Bouzek | Resource Conservationist | christine.bouzek@usda.gov (Trempealeau)

Haillie Passow | County Conservationist | Haillie.passow@co.trempealeau.wi.us (Trempealeau)

Holly Geurts | Acting Resource Conservationist | holly.geurts@usda.gov (Monroe)

Brittany Siehr| Soil Conservationist | Office: 608-782-0180|brittany.siehr@usda.gov (La Crosse)

Hannah St. Aubin | Soil Conservationist | Hannah.StAubin@usda.gov (Jackson)

Alanna Koshollek | West Central Regional Coordinator, WiWiC | alannakoshollek@gmail.com 715-538-3773

We'll be sharing the groundwater flow model at the three upcoming Fall Learning Circles, too. Bring your curiousity, questions, and a friend! As always, there is plenty of time for networking and connecting over snacks before and after the presentation. Hope to see you somewhere sometime soon!
